Preventing money laundering is a humanitarian responsibility

A leading reinsurer needed to remind their learners of the damage money laundering activities such as human slavery, drugs and arms trafficking can do to individuals, society and the environment.

As a reinsurance company, rigorous due diligence on customers and partner organisations is essential to ensure they never indirectly support money laundering by associating with unscrupulous companies.

‍

It was important that the consequences of money laundering should feel direct and shocking to learners. They needed to appreciate the importance of due diligence and their own human vigilance in preventing these risks.

Solution

A time travel adventure explores the impact of AML mistakes on the future

A gamified learning experience with a strong narrative imagined a future in which the predicate offences that support money laundering (illegal arms and drugs trafficking, human slavery) have been allowed to damage people and the world we live in.

‍

The learning begins in this future where the learner joins the crew of a futuristic steampunk airship, dedicated to undoing the harm. The learner travels back to the present day to identify and correct due diligence mistakes that have allowed criminal activity to flourish.

‍

A pre-test allowed learners to test out of the full experience, though many voluntarily opted to travel. Detailed scenarios depicted relatable characters, companies and dilemmas. High impact futuristic visuals, full screen animation and immersive interactivity created an emotionally engaging and effective learning experience.
